At sixteen, whilst still at school, John completed a career assessment. The verdict: become a photographer. So, he gave up on his long-held dream to become a professional tennis player and headed for Blackpool College. In 1985 he graduated with a B.Sc. in photography.

John spurned an apprenticeship to take up his first professional job: working for a leading model agency photographing 150 aspiring models a week for a £150 salary.

Over the next six years he continued to pursue fashion photography, working in Australia and Hong Kong. However his passion for sport remained unabated, and so he decided to combine the two in his first book, 'Atlanta Dream' for the 1996 Olympics. His second book, 'Anatomy for the Artist', was spotted by Adidas who commissioned him for their next campaign and a specialism was born in capturing the power of the human body and its function. John is skilled is in creating images which are provocative not predictable and highly sensual. He is regularly commissioned by a wide range of international clients including, Adidas, Gillette, Cirque de Soleil, Speedo, Carling, Orange, Aviva and Volvo, photographing a wide range of sport stars such as Johnny Wilkinson, Andy Murray, Sir Chris Hoy, Mark Foster, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Ronaldinho, Justin Rose and Kelly Holmes.

John would still like to be a professional tennis player and feels he is currently
at the top of his game.
